Dear Deaf-Blind campers / Special Service Providers
Hi. I’m Mike Walton, the new director of Courage North Camp. I first attended Seabeck DB Camp at Seattle, Washington, in 2006. Then LCDC-DB Camp in Eunice, Louisiana, then West River DB Camp in Annapolis, Maryland and DeafBlind Acess Services Camp in Atlanta, Georgia. I take pride in learning the interests of the DB campers so I am happy to invite you to Courage North Retreat Center.
The Deaf-Blind Retreat will be held at Courage North Retreat Center, in Lake George, Minnesota. We are looking forward to a FIVE days / FOUR nights week of relaxation, support and fun with the DB campers and the SSP’s.

A rate of $113 per person for 5 days / 4 nights camp includes lodging / 11 meals (Sep 17th dinner to Sep 21st breakfast.

Six Cabins: Each cabin sleeps up to 14 people. And have a day room, fireplace and accessible showers in bathroom.
Dining Hall - a 3,000 square foot building with a capacity for 100 more people. It has a beautiful fireplace / seating area.
Note: 84 people are needed including DB campers and SSPs. it is a first come first serve. If less than 80, the camp will be cancelled; you will get a full refund.
Do not purchase air, bus and train tickets
until you receive an acceptance letter before July 21st.

- Oscar costumes for the Saturday night dance
- Male: wear a woman dress and a wig
- Female: wear a white shirt, a tie and fake mustache.

DEADLINE DATE – JULY 15TH
Here’s some camp information:
1) Welcome to the first time Deaf Blind Camp.
2) Deaf-Blind campers should arrive no earlier than 3 pm on Wednesday September 17th. Camp will end after breakfast on Sunday, September 21st (around 10:00 am). People can leave on Saturday night if that is more convenient but no buses are available until Sunday at 10:00 am.
3) If you need transportation to and from the bus/train stations, please indicate that on the page 7. Provide your own transportation if at all possible. Directions to the camp are included in this letter. Questions about transportation should be directed to Mike Walton at meadowxyz@yahoo.com.
4) Be sure to bring money for buses and camp store.
5) Bring any food that you may need if you have a special diet. Put your name on that food and if it needs to be refrigerated use the refrigerator in the Retreat Center. The camp dining hall is not able to accommodate special diets.
6) The camp schedule is tentative and is subject to change, depending on the weather, etc.
7) SSP’s should be on break from 5:15 pm – 6:00 pm and should be free at 10 pm every night. No SSP should work after 10 pm unless they volunteer to do so. Campers cannot force their SSP’s to work later than 10 pm.
8) The theme of the camp is “Hollywood” Bring some kind of your favorite actor/actree costumes for the dance on the last night (September 20th) Dress up is mandatory!
9) The use of alcohol and drugs is prohibited at the camp. Every one is expected to show courtesy and respect for one another. Romantic associations and/or unwanted touching is also prohibited.
10) Everyone gets a T-shirt and a camp photo. They will be mailed after the camp.
11) Blankets and pillows are furnished only at the camp but twin sized fitting / regular sheet and pillowcase linen sets available for rent. The cost is $3.00 per set.
12) There is no public transportation for Itasca State Park and the closest cities – Lake George and Bemidji so do your own.
13) Please wear dark color shirts/tee shirts. (white ppl: black, dark green, navy, etc.) (non-whte ppl: lime, orange, gray, etc.)
14) Bring play games like chess, checkers, backgammon, etc.
15) No pets are allowed except ‘service’ dogs.
